Mandatory HMO Licensing
National mandatory HMO licensing is in place for all properties let to at least 5 people who are not from 1 ‘household’ (for example a family) but share facilities like the bathroom and kitchen. It’s sometimes called a ‘house share’.
Additional Licensing
From 1st July 2022, until 30th June 2027, an Additional Licensing scheme is in place in the Bromwich Central ward only. Enter your property details in our look up tool to confirm if your property is within Bromwich Central ward.
The designation applies to all HMOs as defined by Section 254 of the Act that are occupied by 3-4 persons comprising two or more households, and HMOs as defined in Section 257 of the Act.

Selective Licensing
Important Dates
1st July 2022
Start of the Additional Licensing scheme.
30th June 2027
End of the Additional Licensing scheme.
Important
The council will be able to extend the scheme for a further five years’ after a further consultation.
Licensing Conditions
There are a set of different nationally required standards for each type of licence. Each Local Authority has the powers to add to these requirements so it’s always important to check the standards for each area you have a licensable property.

There does not appear to be an different standards required for the Additional Licensing scheme.
